The New Mom Guide
The First time mom’s guide in taking a big leap
towards motherhood
Congratulations on the arrival of your little one! Now you think to yourself...what’s
next? What’s the first thing I have to do? Here are some basic tips that
will help you breeze through this wonderful journey with your newfound
pride and joy!
From Being Just Me to Having a Little One
The transition from non-parent to being a parent is a huge one. After
all the pushing and panting and worrying – now, you begin to realize
there’s someone beside you who is so fragile and beautiful, who needs
you to be there 24/7. It is important to acknowledge that you are new
to this thing and that you can get support from your husband, mother,
sister, friends and the ever reliable house help. It is important to
recognize that you can never be a perfect mother, it will take some time
for you to grow into your new role and to tell yourself that you can
learn to become one as soon as you start to be familiar with your new
baby and his/her needs. In a few days or even weeks, you will be able
to establish your routine in giving tender loving care to your precious
baby.
Real Mom Tips

It is okay to pick up your baby when they cry
Babies cry for so many reasons. They maybe hungry, or they may
feel some discomfort due to wetness or they simply need to be held. Babies
oftentimes need to feel their mother and/or their father’s presence to
feel secure. A touch or even the sound of your voice can already be reassuring
to your new family member.
Establish bedtime with your little one
This is good especially during the early months so that you and
your baby can get used to the routine and avoid late night stay ups. If
you enjoy music – play the lullaby or you may even sing your owntune as
your baby starts to fall asleep (hum softly my dear). It is suggested
by experts that you put them down while they are half asleep so they
can learn how to drift to sleep. It is okay to accustom them to the regular
noise around the room so they can sleep with normal background noise.
My Baby and Others
Your baby might be at the centre of your attention right now,
but be mindful that the Dad and the other big kids have needs too. Spend
time to laugh, listen and have quality conversations with otherfamily members
even for just a few minutes. Encourage other visitors to also pay attention
to the big kids (Ate and Kuya) whenever they come. They must never feel
neglected because of the new added member in the family. Lastly, have
some time for yourself too by asking other family members to give you
some “time out” moments each day. In this way, you can also reconnect
with yourself, may it be by taking a long, warm bath, stretching or praying.

Cherish your love affair
Enjoy and seize every moment.
Take photos, do a memorabilia of your baby and family. Make sure
you update your digital album each month. Another thing you can do is start
a blog that will allow you to share your parenting challenges and triumphs
or just to share your raves about your new bundle of joy.
Right Start
Start it right by trusting your baby’s health to your paediatrician.
Regular checkups, scheduled vaccines and milestone development grading
are the important tools to see if your baby is growing up healthy. Moms
like to give utmost care for their babies when it comes to their nutrition,
hygiene and growth.
The Breastfeeding Experience
New moms always want to give the best nutrition that they can provide
to their newborns. Breast milk is the golden standard in providing the
essential nutrients that they need for in their rapid development. It
also promotes mother and infant bonding because when the mother starts
to hold the child, the warmth and connection are beginning to establish.
New babies nurse every two hours, make sure to offer both breasts at
each feeding. Try to get professional advice such as a lactation expert
to guide you on the technique or you may visit various breastfeeding
websites for breastfeeding tips and tricks for further information.
